Homeschool Day

Homeschool Day!

March 31st, 2026

9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Come explore the Preserve during a special day just for homeschool families! Students will get hands-on with activities that introduce the area's history and archaeology. They’ll also take a closer look at the petroglyphs and learn about the people who made them. All of this while they’re surrounded by the beauty of the Sonoran Desert, with chances to explore what it takes to survive in such a unique environment! All activities align with Arizona State Learning Standards for K-8th grade, but all learners are invited to participate.

Please note: The Preserve experience includes both indoor and outdoor activities. The trail is not paved and is lined with gravel, so we recommend wearing sturdy shoes and bringing water, hats, and sunscreen.

Stick around to experience Cultivating the Future: A Timequake Station for Middle School Youth!

Step into the living timeline of the Sonoran Desert at this hands-on Timequake station. This interactive experience explores how the creativity of desert communities created powerful innovations and continues to inspire new technologies like agrivoltaics—the integration of solar power and agriculture. Participants will explore how past ingenuity can inspire present-day solutions for sustaining desert life.

Each participating family will receive a take-home agrivoltaics gardening kit, while supplies last, and an invitation to join the Sonoran Photovoltaics Laboratory’s participatory science program, where young scientists can contribute to real-world research shaping sustainable futures for our region.
